Beyonce’s first successes was with the band destiny’s child when they realised there first album it topped billboard’s top 200, when they went on hiatus in 2002 Beyonce went solo and released her breakthrough song ‘crazy in love’ with rapper jay-z the video showed her dancing erotically and wearing little clothing this went down well earning her five Grammys. music often done by her is either fast paced hip hop(crazy in love) that could easily be danced to in a club, R&B (baby boy) which is slower but still has a beat and also could be played in a club to change the atmosphere. Her music has developed over time as the music industry has changed ‘put a ring on it’ was one of the songs that changed her image completely and edged her image more toward the new divas of this music era such as lady gaga, this is also shown by the two of them doing the telephone video. Her videos and music became more sexual and had further lyrical story lines to them songs such as ‘if i was a boy’, ‘ego’ & ‘best thing you ever had’ show this. It is also clear from the music that she is a proud independent black women, this image hasn’t changed but has developed over her music career and her image of being a great vocalist has also backed this up with songs such as ‘halo’.
Beyonces trademark long hair and unique style on and off stage has made her a role model for women, teenagers and children everywhere. Doing recent music videos that are plain in theory as they’re not focused a setting ‘single ladies’ is done in black and white, in a plain studio with only 2 other women the whole video is of the 3 girls dancing and singing with various shots and different dances to keep the audience engaged. It’s different from her first single as the settings change as well as the many dancers and costume. As a results it seems as though the recent videos she’s created maybe cheaper than those of her earlier ones as less props, less costume changes and less dancers seem to be used however the few props and costumes that are used are expensive such as the metal glove used in the video which she wore to the MTV European music awards creating more interest in her new video.
